Just like any other emirates, Sharjah’s economy started off with water; citizen pearl diving and fishing to sustain their lives.
They began expanding their urban grid corresponding to the topography of the city. Quick design transition was done to Western approach by adding parks and expanding the streets. Unfortunately, this had led into destroying the fort of the city, which was originated in the middle of the street and was symbolic to the city. As they were reminded that the fort holds a historic print to the city, the citizens had to rebuilt the fort.
Sharjah guards the historic part of its city, which stems from its role in preserving the national identity and reinforce the city’s role in maintaining & developing the local historical & cultural values contributing to the development of Arab culture.
Sharjah manages to attract people in an authentic way by national projects – reviving history in any form- because they believe their future is their people. Therefore, when the historic value of the city is cut down, the social connection/belongingness of people of the city will be lost as well.
