Being an Architect

‘ Does ARCH education prepare you for your future as an Architect? ‘

I see the ARCH schools as an invitation to the world of architecture. They teach you about conceptualisation and execution. It’s really about the guidance and individual learning which they mainly focus on. Schools fail to go beyond design and softwares, enabling us to do half the job. Fighting the battle between design and budgets something no school teaches. The problem is rooted from schools having the liberty too high, which results in lack of professional knowledge and technicality in design. However, schools do teach us to approach a problem and the ability to self explore and having the desire to change the world for the better. This I believe is the good foundation of a good architect.

Then you learn the reality through business training, team managing, construction field experience and contract administration through the corporate world. Also, being an architect is not just about knowing how to ‘design’ but what contributes in being an Architect is your personality, your approach and your choice of words. You need to be good at talking, to deliver your design and allow people to ‘buy’ it.

Being an architect is a challenging task, but it’s a bit of everything and I believe this is what makes it unique and adventurous while working.
